A presentation by Carol Buonvino, Health Protection Officer from the Environmental Health Department of the Isle of Wight Council, in support of the two year campaign to demystify the risk assessment process and show that it is not necessarily complicated, bureaucratic or a task only for experts. The aim of the presentation will be to promote the benefits of completing and implementing risk assessments by raising awareness, providing information and practical advice, and looking at the positive actions we can take to enable us to enjoy safer working lives.

9th December 2008 - Asbestos Risk and the Duty to Manage: Mr Jonathan Grant MSc AIEMA CCP (Asbestos) Gully Howard

The HSE is working with key stakeholders (trades unions, trade associations, and suppliers) to raise awareness amongst tradesmen that they are at risk from exposure to asbestos.  During 2008 a campaign will be rolled out to target building maintenance and repair workers (e.g. electricians, plumbers and carpenters and joiners), using the theme 'You are more at risk than you think!'  In this sort presentation we will discuss what is the real risk of exposure to asbestos and what does a 'dutyholder' need to do in order to comply with the asbestos Regulations.
